It’s usually not disobedience - it’s context.
Dogs don’t automatically generalize behavior. “Sit” in your living room and “sit” on a busy sidewalk are two completely different skills. Training has to happen where you expect it to work, starting easy and building up.
Get it 100% solid inside first - meaning your dog will not break a stay, ever. Then move to your yard. Then a friend’s house. Then the park.
Yes, it takes longer. And yes, this is why sending your dog away to be trained often doesn’t stick. The dog may learn the skill - but you didn’t learn how to maintain it in real life.
The goal isn’t control everywhere.

Here’s the part most people don’t realize: dogs have far fewer taste buds than humans. They don’t experience flavor the way we do. What drives their behavior is smell, and smell is information to a dog.
Poop smells strongly of undigested food, routine, and environment. To a dog, that’s data - not a “gross” decision.
Poop eating usually shows up because of boredom, stress, learned behavior, or simple opportunity. In multi-dog homes, it often starts as copying. It’s rarely about taste and almost never about your dog being “bad.”
The fix usually isn’t a supplement or yelling. It’s management first - clean it up quickly, limit access - and then addressing the underlying issue, whether that’s enrichment, structure, or anxiety.
And no, your dog isn’t broken.
